Cost: 1hour - $10

NEW CLASS: For Beginners, Time: Tuesdays 8:00 am EAST, Starts in June 2024

      This course is designed for true beginners or students with very little exposure to French. This class is suitable for primary school students and junior high school (grades 5,6 and years 7 and 8).

It is an interactive course that will cover the 4 main language skills: listening, writing, reading, and speaking. It will also include grammar points along with exercises. Students will have a chance to interact with each other and to work in pairs or small groups. Games, word searches, drawing and other fun activities are also included. Homework can be given if requested.

The lesson will run every Wednesday from 11:15 to 12:15 (Melbourne time). The cost is $10 per student or screen (with a maximum of 2 students per screen).

Resources needed: paper (white no line), coloured pencils, a pen/pencil, and an exercise book to take notes.

Students will learn a range of vocabulary and language structures in French. The curriculum will include the following topis:

  • Introducing oneself

  • Family members and pets

  • Animals

  • Numbers from 1 to 100

  • How to say the time

  • Days of the weeks, months of the year and seasons

  • Weather

  • Body parts

  • Describing somebody’s physical appearance

  • Describing somebody’s personality

  • School subjects and classroom items

  • Likes and dislikes

  • Clothing and describing someone’s clothing

  • House and rooms of the house

  • Bedroom and bedroom furniture

  • Fruit and vegetables

  • Going to the market and buying food

  • Meals, food, and cooking

  • Shops and asking for directions in town

  • Transportation and going somewhere

  • At the train station and buying a ticket

  • Houses chores

  • Daily routine

  • Leisure activities – playing an instrument - playing a sport

  • At the beach

  • At the swimming pool

  • Masculine and feminine in French

  • Articles a/an and the

  • Verbs “to be” and “to have”

  • Present tense of verbs finishing in -er

  • Negative structures

  • How to ask yes/no questions

  • The verb “to go”

  • The verb “to do/make”

  • How to ask open questions

  • How to compare things

  • The verb “to want”

  • Modal “can”

  • Prepositions (on, under, next to, in front of…)

  • Reflexive verbs

  • Partitive du/de la/des
